A Centre man has died from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident on Thursday night in Centre.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton, 37-year-old Michael Chad Stephens died on Monday at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

The Centre Police Department accident report stated that the accident occurred just prior to 7:00 p.m. on the Chestnut Bypass near OK Tire when the 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle Stephens was driving was involved in a collision with a 2005 Pontiac G-6 being driven by 48-year-old Centre resident Laurie Johnson. A second motorcycle, a 2017 Harley being driven by 52-year-old Terrence Dixon of Cedar Bluff was also involved in the accident.

Stephens was taken from the scene by Floyd EMS to Floyd-Cherokee Medical Center where he was stabilized and then airlifted to Erlanger.

The exact cause of the accident is currently under investigation. This is a joint investigation between the Centre Police Department and the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
