With the NFL season now underway, the new Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta will be opening it’s doors for a regular season game for the first time ever. The stadium itself is not the only thing that will be opening for the first time, the roof will be as well.
This will not be the first game to be played in the new stadium, there have been two preseason football games and an Atlanta United games as well. These games were unable to be played with the retractable roof open, however, due to mechanical issues. Those issues have been resolved and weather permitting, Atlanta will experience it’s first open air professional football game since the final game at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium in 1991.
This will be a memorable day for players, coaches, fans, and all of Atlanta. After last season’s tough end to the season, this might just be the “opening” to the season that the Falcons need to make it to Minnesota for this year’s Super Bowl.
