Dozens of protesters were outside the central office of Rome City Schools on Tuesday for their board meeting.

The protesters were on hand on behalf of a teacher at Anna K. Davie Elementary School.    Teacher Marilyn McCluskey, who submitted her resignation earlier in the year, claims she rescinded it hours after turning it it, asked for her not to be released from her contract.

McCluskey said that she submitted her resignation on August 25th after becoming frustrated from allegedly being harassed on a daily basis by an administrator.

She added that after speaking with Anna K Davie Principal Clifton Nicholson she changed her mind thanks to the assurance that he would keep an eye on her situation and to make sure she wasn’t going to be harassed any longer.

However, the board later still approved McCluskey’s contract release that has a resignation date of December 31, 2017.

School Superintendent Lou Byers said that he could not speak on personnel issues.
McCluskey said that she has put a lot of effort into helping the students in her class for students with behavioral referrals. She added that she spent thousands of her own dollars into school related stuff, including turning her classroom into a cafe.
