Tommy Michael Thornton, 30 of Cedartown, was arrested Saturday in Rome after he allegedly ran from police then threatened them.

Reports stated that a warrant had been issued for Thornton when police spotted him walking down Shorter Avenue attempting to flag down cars.

Police said that when they approached him he gave them a fake date of birth before attempting to run away on foot.  Following a chase Thornton attempted to physically resist arrest and them told them that he would “send them to meet Jesus”.

Thornton was walked for giving a false statement stemming from an incident Sept. 18 on East 19th Street in Rome.

Thornton is charged with felony aggravated assault of an officer during the performance of his duties, six counts of terroristic threats and acts, misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officer, giving a false name, and making false statements or writings.
