A boil water advisory has been issued by the City of Summerville for certain areas on its water system
The city has been experiencing water pressure problems at its Cooper Hill Road reservoir causing the pressure to “drop to dangerously low levels,” according to the city. When this occurs, a potential health hazard may exist in these areas of zero pressure from backflow and or back-siphonage of water of unknown quality to the water distribution system.
This advisory is only for a specific area, according to City Public Works Director Terry Tinney.
Those areas include:
* Buice Lane
* Ochard Hill Road
* Martin Dairy Road
* Dandee Drive
* Denson Road
* Evans Denson Road
* Sara Jane Lane
* Portion of Hair Lake Road to the intersection of Mahan Road and Rocky Hollow Road and Saddle Club Road.
Citizens in these areas are asked to boil their water that will be used for cooking, drinking or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for a least one minute after reaching a rolling boil.
This boil advisory will last until the city does more testing on its water system tomorrow and this weekend. So far, the city hasn’t had any contaminated water samples that it tested.
Tinnney said the city would release more information after the upcoming water quality tests tomorrow and/or this weekend
