For the second time in program history the Hawks will be represented on the National Track & Field stage as Lester Miller
and Deangelo Harris
compete at USATF Outdoor Championships and USTF Junior Outdoor Championships, respectively, this weekend in Sacramento, Calif.
Miller, the 200m champion and 100m runner-up in Division II, will take on the best the US has to offer as a qualifier in the 100m dash. To earn his qualification, Miller set a new school record in the event when he crossed the line in 10.19 at last month’s DII Championships. The field for the event includes Olympians, Tyson Gay and Justin Gatlin, and the 2017 NCAA Division I Champion, Christian Coleman, from Tennessee.
The first of three rounds is set for Thursday, June 22, at 6:35pm Pacific (9:35pm Eastern). Should he move on, the semifinals (5:35pm PT/8:35pm ET) and finals (8:02pm PT/11:02pm ET) will be held on Friday, June 23. All events will be live-streamed on USATF.TV; while all the events held on Friday-Sunday will be televised on NBC Sports Network & NBC.
Harris, who is a two-time qualifier in the 400m at DII Nationals and All-American in the 4x400m, will look to earn a spot on the US Juniors Team that will compete in Peru at the Junior Pan-American Championships in July. His qualification in the 400m came when the freshman finished 8th overall at the Florida Relays in April with a time of 47.09.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, June 23, at 2:15pm Pacific (5:15pm Eastern), with Saturday’s finals set for 4:37pm Pacific (7:37pm Eastern). All events for the Junior Championships will be streamed on USATF.TV.
The pair joins former Hawk, Kirk Wilson, who competed at US Nationals in 2014, finishing 7th overall in the 200m in a time of 21.08. And, from our research, appear to be the only DII runners participating in the weekend at either championship.
All times listed above are subject to change, and will be updated as needed on www.goshorterhawks.com
