Georgia Power will be cutting close to a third of its workforce at Plant Hammond in Coosa. Reports stated that the company will cut 80 jobs due to “economics and market conditions”.
Company officials said that they are working to ensure a smooth transition for employees that might be affected from the cuts
They added that the cuts are underway and would continue throughout the year.
The Institute of Energy Economics and Financial Analysis issued a report stated that it costs $94 per megawatt-hour for the plant to operate, almost double what it would cost to buy power on the open market.
