Christopher Cody Ely, 30 of Rome and Elisa Shae Highfield, 32 of Calhoun, were arrested Sunday on Shorter Avenue near Watson Street for numerous drug charges after they were stopped because they were driving with their bright lights on.

Reports stated that the officer saw Ely switch seats with Highfield as he approached the vehicle.  The officer then discovered that Highfield had a valid driver’s license, while Ely did not.

After arresting Ely for driving on a suspended license a search of the vehicle was performed.  The officer reported that he found a tin containing marijuana, clonazepam and methamphetamine.

Both Ely and Highfield told police that the drugs did not belong to them.

While being booked into the Floyd County Jail deputies said that they found a meth pipe and a capsule of meth on Highfield.

Ely is charged with drugs not in original container, possession of a schedule IV controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended license and failure to dim lights.
