Registration is open for Rome Little Theatre Academy’s Summer Workshop for students ages 6-16. The summer stock-style workshop, which runs 9am to 2pm June 12-16, is designed to challenge novice and experienced young actors alike.
Led by veteran educators, students will be grouped by age and will spend each day rotating through classes in musical theatre vocal technique, choreography, scene study, and improvisation. This summer’s theme is the wildly creative “Seussical the Musical”. The workshop will culminate in a free showcase for friends and family. An early registration price of $155 is offered through March 31. The price will go up to $175 on April 1. Tuition includes lunch daily and a t-shirt.
Chris Davidson, RLT’s Director of Education, says that theatre education develops critical life skills in children of all ages.
“Students who are involved in the theater cultivate valuable life skills that extend far beyond the stage,” she said. “They learn to empathize and cooperate, to problem-solve, and to express themselves confidently. Studies show a remarkable correlation between theater involvement and academic performance. Most importantly, though, the theater is a safe place to be yourself, to make new friends, and to have fun.”
The Rome Little Theatre’s Academy is ongoing and a variety of classes are offered for youth and adults, including several that begin April 22. Registration links and a full list of classes and workshops are available at romelittletheatre.com. For more information, call the theatre at 706-295-7171.
