According to reports, the bones of a man found off Kirby Road last year have been identified as that of Dewayne Allen Robbins, of Rome.  Robbins had been missing since 2009.

Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor said that the test point to the identification of Robbins, however, a small trace of contamination was found in the test.

He added that the GBI Crime Lab will do a second test on the bones to confirm the identity.

The remains were discovered after a hunter found a human skull off a dirt path near the Floyd and Gordon County line on November 6, 2015.

Police said that Robbins was listed as homeless when he went missing.

Proctor added that there would be no way to identify the cause of death of the man because of the lack of body present when it was discovered.

According to Floyd County Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor, the human remains found by a hunter on Kirby Road last Friday could have been there for five to seven years. He added that it appears that the remains would be sent to Texas to look at the DNA so that they can hopefully identity them.

Proctor said that it could take close to half a year to get the results back.
